Bangladesh – Passport

This is a great advantage that you can now check the status of your passport. There are quite a few official steps required for the passport to pass. You can check in which position your passport is now in from any mobile operator.

Go to your phone message option and write:

MRP<space>Your enroll ID and send to 6969.

with in a second you will receive a replay.

** You will find your enroll ID from the right corner of the delivery slip which contains 15 numbers and starts with 26 (example: 26XXXXXXXXXXXXX)

There are quite a few official steps taken by the passport authority in Bangladesh. The steps are mentioned below:

1. Application in Process for verification

2. Application in Process at Special Branch

3. Application is Pending for RPO approval.

4. Passport is Printing

5. Passport is ready for delivery

The second step takes the longest period as the Sub Inspector of your nearest Police Station will review your application and verify the address and person.

Remember when applying for Passport in Bangladesh:

You should consider Passport a very important document for your identification. You should provide all information correctly and properly on your Passport Form. Otherwise, you may face unexpected problems.

The Sub Inspector police from your nearby area may visit your present and permanent address. You need not to be panic. They may call the person in your present address as well. Specially, if you are applying for such documents for the first time, I mean if you don’t have a National Identification Card, then these verification process are mandatory. They will just do their job in the verification process so that they make sure you are someone who really exists with the provided address.

So, please be specific and honest on providing your information. If you help them your verification process will be faster.

Steps on how to apply for a Machine Readable Passport  (MRP) in Bangladesh:

It is a bit time consuming matter when you are applying for a Passport in Bangladesh in a legal way. You can not complete all the process in a single day. You need at least couple of days to complete the whole scenario. Today Machine Readable Passport  (MRP) has the greater acceptance all over the world and we will discuss about only Machine Readable Passport  (MRP) here.

step 1. You need to collect a form from Passport Office at Agargaon, Dhaka. The form is free of cost. Make sure the form contains two pages. You need to take out a photocopy of the given form.

step 2. Please read the instructions carefully on the last page. The form should be filled properly. Then take out a photocopy of the real passport form. Otherwise, they wont let you go to the next step.

step 3. After filling the form you have to go to the Passport Office on another day. Maintain a queue on Gate 2. There you will have to pay the passport fees on Sonali Bank Branch. The passport fess are 3,000 for General and 6,000 for Express. Collect the deposit from a guard and write down your name, amount to be paid, Bank name and signature. Stand in the queue and Deposit the money on Bank. They will take 5 tk for each deposit of 3,000 tk as VAT (as they say so).

With Express, you are supposed to get the passport within 15 days and within 30 days for General, if there is no problem with your passport information. If you don’t have a rush, you are recommended for General delivery. In case you have urgency such as visiting abroad for business purpose, admitting in hospitals or any other related cases you should go with Express delivery.

step 4. Attach the deposit slip on the front page of the real form.

step 5. Show the form on Gate 1 for primary verification. After checking your form from one of the staff, he/she will write OK and signature on your form.

steps 6. Then go for second verification process on the same place walking a bit forward. There an officer will check your form again and signature. He may ask you something about your provided information on the form. But don’t be afraid. Be honest.

step 7: Then on the same place he will send your form to an officer, who will give you a serial number. You will be told to report the form. You will be given a day to do so.

Now you can go back to home and take a rest or you can complete the rest of the steps within the day if you are prepared enough for taking your passport photo. The next step is to take photos for your passport.

What is Passport?

We are quite popular with Passport. Passport is mainly a document issued by the Government which certifies your identity and citizenship. The Passport bears our identity when we travel to a foreign country. The passport carries the information of one’s Name, Sex, Date of Birth and Place of Birth.

The Passport alone does not give the passport holder the permission to travel another country unless it has a visa stamped on it, but it entitles the passport holder to return to the country from where the passport was issued.

Why Passport is necessary?

When you are in your country, you can easily prove your identity with your birth certificate, office ID card, university ID card or any other ID card issued by your company or institution you are involved and working with. But internationally, while traveling abroad, a passport can provide this privilege to you.
